FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About N2 Publishing and the Area Director Position
When was N2 Publishing created?
We started in June of 2004 in
Wilmington, NC. We have since
expanded into more than 15 markets
across America with annual sales
exceeding $3.0 million.
What types of publications does N2 specialize in?
While our core product focuses on the
communication and social needs of a
typical neighborhood, we also produce
annual directories and city magazines.
How many publications can one Area Director (AD) have?
We initially limit the amount of
publications based on an Area Director's
ability to manage his/her existing
workload, but typically an AD can
have as many publications as s/he
chooses to have.
From where does the editorial content come for each publication?
N2 has corporate editors and partnerships
with outside companies such as:
a. Edward Jones
b. Case Handyman
c. AAA Travel, etc.
How much does it cost to produce a publication?
The cost of each publication varies
depending on the number of homes and
the page count of each publication.
Does N2 produce full color publications?
Yes we do. The community must meet
certain criteria for full color to be used.
Do ADs have equity in their territory? Can they sell their business once it is developed?
Yes, ADs can build their business and
then sell it if/when they
choose to leave.
How big is an Area?
When a new AD is ready to start,
N2 Publishing assists in outlining a
protected area. Factors include population
and business densities.
Do ADs need an office or can they work out of their home?
Some ADs choose to work out of their home, while others have a small office outside of their house to separate their work and personal life.
Do ADs need staff to operate the business?
Initially, no. But over time, most Area
Directors do add staff to build their business.
Are there opportunities for advancement?
Yes. Everyone who starts with N2 starts
as an Area Director but can advance to
help expand a region.
Are there levels of recognition or annual awards?
Yes. ADs compete for awards
and recognition on a campaign and annual basis.
I only want to work 8-to-5 on Monday through Friday. Can I do that?
Most of the time, yes. However board /
committee meetings are usually in the
evening, which will require an hour or
two on those nights. Most ADs will
attend five to ten board meetings per year.
Can my spouse be an editor or a part of my support team?
Yes.
Do I need special skills to work with N2?
Strong communication skills are a must.
While previous sales experience will
prove helpful, we have several Area
Directors in N2 that started without a
sales background and have done very well. Our
national training and support program
continues to educate and provide the necessary
tools needed for growth and success.
Is N2 a franchise?
No we are not. Franchises charge fees up front to begin that are made payable to the Company (Franchisor). We do not accept any payment from Area Directors at any time. That doesn't mean Area Directors don't have any costs to get started. They need to buy business cards, they need to make sure they have a cell phone and a place to conduct business, but Area Directors will never make a payment to N2. We are not unlike a franchise though in that we do provide a proven system to follow, as well as training to help Area Directors succeed.
If I am accepted, is there training?
Yes, initial training is held in Chicago on a monthly basis. A new AD will attend this training one time prior to getting started in his/her own territory. The new AD is expected to cover the costs for transportation, meals and lodging for the three-day, two-night event.
Do I need money to get started?
There are some expenses
associated with becoming an Area Director. Some
of the basic things needed to start are a
cell phone, computer, digital camera, a reliable
vehicle, and transportation, lodging and food costs while attending our three day initial training event in Chicago.
How much money can an Area Director make?
N2 does not make any direct claims as
to how much an individual can make as
an Area Director. Many different factors
come into play when discussing the
income opportunity. Some people work harder
than others, some have a strong sales
background, some may have health issues,
etc. While we do provide examples of
income made by real N2 Area Directors, we encourage anyone investigating
the opportunity to ask other N2 Area
Directors what their experience has been.
Do ADs have contracts with N2 Publishing?
Yes. Like most companies, we have legal
contracts in place so everyone is fully
aware of what the expectations are.
